借用一下诺曼·布莱森的两个术语“图像性绘画”和“话语性绘画”开始本部分的讨论。在拙文《视网膜符号绘画》中,已经从方**的角度将中国当代的大部分绘画归为符号绘画,也就是本文所谓的话语性绘画。相对中国流行的话语性绘画来说,里希特的绘画则属于图像性绘画。话语性绘画强调画面主题直接面对观者,而图像性绘画则逃避这种直接性,也就说图像性绘画没有强烈的表意目的,这是两者在方**层面上存在的根本性差异。
里希特的作品之所以达到这种效果,首先在于他选择照片而又拒绝拼贴和并置的创作方法。其次是他对灰色的运用。
